OVERVIEW

Welcome to Escarp Adventures, a private nature retreat set on a spectacular 2,000-hectare property in the Mpumalanga Drakensberg Escarpment, between eNtokozweni (Machadodorp) and eManzana (Badplaas). Surrounded by mountains, waterfalls, the Komati River Valley and abundant wildlife, the property offers a wide choice of accommodation, from comfortable self-catering lodges and cottages to unique hiking camps. The historic Kruger House Lodge features four luxurious en-suite rooms sleeping up to eight guests, together with a fully equipped kitchen, dining room, lounge and indoor braai area. The large outdoor patio overlooks stocked fish ponds and the surrounding hills, with views extending across the Komati River Valley towards eSwatini. Next door, Num-num Lodge offers two en-suite bedrooms, a modern kitchen, indoor braai, dining area and spacious open-plan loft, while the adjacent Stables provides two additional en-suite rooms that can be booked alongside either lodge for larger groups. For guests looking for a more private self-catering stay, the Kudu Cottage and Tarentaal Chalet offer comfortable accommodation with kitchens, dining and living areas, verandas or decks, and braai facilities. Their secluded mountain setting makes them well suited to couples, families and small groups wanting their own space while staying close to the property's outdoor activities. Escarp Adventures is also home to four distinctive hiking camps, each offering a different experience. Pongola Express Railway Coach Camp features a beautifully preserved 1911 railway sleeper and dining coach, while Aloe Kaya Camp is positioned among sandstone rock formations and is known for its open-air canyon showers. Candlewood Camp overlooks the 85-metre Uitkomst Waterfall, also known as the Legendary Bride's Leap Fall, while Mt Komati offers stone-thatched huts along the banks of the Komati River. Outdoor activities are a major part of the Escarp Adventures experience. The property is home to the High5 Hiking Trail, with more than 70 kilometres of professionally laid-out trails suitable for different ages and fitness levels. Routes can be adapted to suit individual groups, whether you're looking for a shorter walk or a more challenging hiking experience. Guests can also enjoy horse riding, fishing and paragliding on the property. Four fishing ponds and sections of the Komati River provide opportunities for anglers, while horse riding is suitable for the whole family. For adventure seekers, the registered paragliding launch site offers the chance to experience the landscape from above. With accommodation options for couples, families, larger groups and hiking enthusiasts, Escarp Adventures provides a practical base for exploring the Mpumalanga Highlands. Whether you want a comfortable lodge, a private mountain cottage or a completely different hiking camp experience, there's a stay to suit your plans. Book your Escarp Adventures getaway and experience the mountains, trails, river and wildlife for yourself.
